Our Notes

Soft sophisticated Bordeaux-inspired Cabernet Merlot, with some time in oak giving a luxurious edge of vanilla to a berry-centric fruit profile and the Cabernet providing gorgeous structure. 

From the Winemaker

A Lion’s family is referred to technically as his “Pride”, and generally comprises several females, numerous cubs, and sometimes other males. The Leogate Estate Lion, being the ancient symbol of the Lion Rampant, has an extensive pride, symbolically represented by its three vineyards and a wide array of wine grape varietals as well as blends.

This Leogate Estate Central Ranges Cabernet Merlot is a French inspired blend which displays a generous mix of red and blue fruits with silky and refined tannins. With twelve months French oak maturation the palate is well structured, complex and long.

About the Winemaker

Fairly new to the Hunter Valley scene, the Leogate operation began in 2009 and has been a critical and commercial success from the start.

Production focuses on careful traditional approaches and on favourite Hunter varietals including Semillon and Shiraz over several vineyards, with some plantings of such underrated grapes as Gerwürztraminer and Tempranillo.

Recently, an organic vineyard in Mudgee was established, and Leogate have secured a contract to supply wines for Qantas first class and business class passengers.
